"Hasn't anyone here been to a grocery store before?" someone wondered out loud during last night's preview opening of the Whole Foods Bowery. Wrong. Question. At 71,000 square feet—the largest supermarket in Manhattan, natch—there's food as far as the eye can see, but also numerous food stations unique to this location.
All day on Racked, we'll be inside the glory, basking in shelfporn and focusing on the highlights at Whole Foods Bowery. Consider this a sneak peek in advance of the official public opening at 8am tomorrow. To begin, cast your eyes above. Why yes, that is a bridge.

The line out front at 6:45pm last night. Excitement? Palpable. The crowd included vendors and their families, neighborhood notables, and members of Riverkeeper, whom the evening benefitted.

Post-industrial goodness, brought to you by Avalon Chrystie Place.

The Confiserie, serving Jacques Torres chocolates and the Lower East Side's own Il Laboatorio Del Gelato's gelato.

A view down from the bridge into fields of produce.

Dry aged beef, people. Dry aged beef. There's an in-store smokehouse, by the by.

The Fromagerie, the store's absolute highlight, about which we'll have much more to say, and show, later today.

The Chili Bar—non-operational last night, but oh, the promise.

Cafe seating on the second floor. Note Sushiya, the sushi bar, with moving conveyor, at right.

The pizza station.

The fry station. Served with "choice in-house prepared condiments, including Moroccan chermoula mayo, bourbon BBQ sauce, smoky chipotle ketchup, pesto mayo, and more." Indeed.

Well, yes, that's the idea.
Stick around. We're just getting started here.
