Some sad news: sex shop Condomania, a destination for West Village queens and giggly teens, has closed. The institution was open for 16 years on Bleeker Street and was known as America's first condom store. According to a letter posted on the Condomania website, "skyrocketing rents" were the source of the shop's demise. Above, an image of what was. Stay tuned for pics of the store's barren, condom-free shelves. [Racked Inbox]
Dear Friend of Condomania,
It is hard to believe that it was almost 16 years ago that Condomania opened on Bleecker Street in New York's West Village as America's First Condom Store. Over the years, millions of people have visited that little store and today we owe much of our success online at Condomania.com to the extraordinary opportunities we had to meet our customers, hear their stories, and understand their safer sex needs and concerns. Due to sky rocketing rents on our little stretch of Bleecker Street, we have made the difficult decision not to renew our lease. Accordingly, our NY Store's last day will be Sunday April 1st of 2007.
While we hope to reopen our New York store in the coming months, we have not yet found the right location for the next 16 years. Stay tuned, we are quite sure that our work in New York is not yet done!
Even though you won't be able to visit us in NY for awhile after this month, don't forget that Condomania.com will continue to meet your safer sex needs.
Thank you for your business and support, we really do appreciate it.
Warm regards,
Adam Glickman
