Storecasting: Esprit Heads to Rock Center, 3.1 Phillip Lim Sets Up Shop In Soho, And Much More
Wednesday, April 25, 2007, by Leslie Price

1) Midtown: Remember Esprit? We don't know anyone who's shopped there recently (like within the last 15 to 20 years), but apparently the company's doing well enough to expand. A reader writes, "don't know if you saw this in today's wwd..."Esprit...has just signed a lease for its fourth New York store, located at 600 Fifth Avenue, in the heart of Rockefeller Center. Esprit is aiming for a November opening for the 14,412-square-foot space, which was previously occupied by a Barnes & Noble." [WWD, subscription req.]

According to the papered windows, his flagship boutique is "coming soon," but we'd give it a few months at least. [The Shophound]

3) Lower East Side: Making Houston Street a little more shopper-friendly will be new store Clarabella, located at 279 East Houston St between Clinton and Suffolk Sts. Set to open May 1st, the boutique will stock women's jewelry, accessories, and shoes. It's another gallery slash shop experiment as well; aside from vegan handbags from Crystalyn Kae and Tashkent by Cheyenne flats, artwork by up-and-coming photographers and painters will be available to purchase. [Racked Inbox]

4) Nolita: There's activity in the empty storefront at Bleecker and Bowery that previously housed handbag shop Rafe. A tipster writes, "does anyone know what will be going in there, It previously housed Rafe. I just noticed that the for rent signs were taken down." Anyone? [Racked Inbox]

5) East Village: Online baby boutique Pink Olive has set it's sights on the East Village. The exact location of the store has yet to be announced, but they are hiring. [Craigslist]

6) Union Square: Also hiring is denim retailer G-Star Raw, for a new Union Square store (the brand currently has a flagship at 270 Lafayette Street in Nolita/Soho) on Broadway between 18th and 19th Streets. [fashion.psfk]
