The ladies over at Fashionista are reporting that MTV has canceled its comedic-tragedy reality-ish show The City—effective at the end of the show's current season. "We’re also guessing that, Palermo, who has become a celebrity outside of her work on The City, is “over” the show," Fashionista writes, "as is Whitney Port, who is very serious about her fashion career, even if the rest of the world isn’t."
Now, before you break out your mourning doves and start hanging black flags out the window, let's take this as what it is—a rumor, with a heavy dose of salt.
While we were in Montauk at Roxy Surf Camp this past weekend (more on that later), we paid a visit to local hotspot Surf Lodge to check out The Like show on Saturday night. There were two producers from The City there that night, and they were scouting for a new girl to join the show's cast. Why would two top producers still be casting if the show's been canned?
We also have it, from a very reliable source, that Olivia Palermo, who plays Whitney Port's nemesis on the show, is scheduled to be in Berlin on a press trip with an accessories company next week. Now, we all know that Palermo only plays an accessories editor on TV, so why would she be schlepping 4,000 miles to look at some handbags for a day and a half if not for the pretend-sake of her pretend-job?
Still, we get the speculation. Why would MTV cancel The Hills and not The City? Hasn't the charade gone on long enough? How much more grief can Olivia give Joe Zee? Stay tuned, watch this space.
