Good news! Conde Nast has found a new way to rescue the magazine industry: Books. Okay, they're not calling it "books," per se.
In an effort to ramp up sales, Conde Nast has disclosed that they'll start printing "special editions" of magazines, reports WWD. These titles will "bundle similar content in themed, newsstand-only volumes. The company used a bound anthology of Glamour's "Dos & Don'ts" as a possible example." Plans are in place to print up to six a year featuring content from Bon Appetit, GQ, The New Yorker, and Vogue.
Sorry, but we've seen a Glamour "Dos & Don'ts" anthology before (above, left). It was a book. Lucky, GQ, and Bon Appetit have all published books as well. Is this Conde Nast scheme just a way of selling fancy, soft-cover books on the newsstand?
