Parks and Recreation's funnyman Aziz Ansari emerged as a surprise front-row fixture this fashion week—sightings included partying it up at at the GQ Best New Menswear bash and discussing the perils of designing for Baby Gap. Although we shouldn't be surprised since his Parks and Rec character Tom Haverford is an aficionado of fine (juniors-sized) suits and crisp business casual polos. When we ran into him at the Target Go International blowout at the Ace Hotel last night, we just had to corner him for a more extended discussion. We think Ansari might have been a little fatigued because he wasn't quite as vociferous as usual, but we still enjoyed our little chat nonetheless. (Side note: We just realized he was wearing the same sweater that he wore to the Waris Ahluwalia party at the Wooly!)
Racked: So Tom Haverford, he's a bit of a dandy and he loves Brooks Brothers Boys. What other designer labels do you think he has in his closet?
Aziz: I don't know, I don't want to insult anyone. Well, the Brooks Brothers is not an insult. Just whatever is really slim fitting because that's all I can wear.
Racked: Like Uniqlo?
Aziz: Yeah, their stuff is good.
Racked: Tom's an enthusiastic entrepreneur. His cologne line didn't quite make it off the ground, but he's branching out into liquor with Snake Juice. What about a fashion line next and what would Tom call it?
Aziz: Oh my god. That's season four! You should get a writing credit. You should pitch that now. It would probably be called...Haverford for Men. (Chuckles) Not very creative.
Racked: So did you hear about Kanye and how he was denied at a couple Paris Fashion Week shows?
Aziz: He didn't get in? What?!
Racked: Nope, they wouldn't let him in. Since you're fashion fixture now, what's your strategy to crash a show if that happened to you?
Aziz: What? No, I just walk in with a tray of pigs in a blanket and they usually just let me in.
