Rumors about Catherine Malandrino's label demise started swirling before New York fashion week this month, when, for the first time in years, the designer's name was noticeably absent from the official schedule. Recently we'd heard that Malandrino's SoHo store has been closed for weeks.
Our sister site, Racked NY investigated:
Malandrino's Soho store is currently closed—though not permanently. A sign in all caps reads, "We apologize for any inconvenience. We are closed for inventory." The store was dark when we stopped by this afternoon, and we didn't see any workers inside stocking any racks or shelves.A Racked tipster tells us that the store isn't actually closed for inventory and that Malandrino is definitely in trouble: "She hasn't paid her staff in weeks and is on the verge of shutting down." Watch this space, we'll update you when we find out more.
