We headed to Barney's flagship in New York last night to toast Costello Tagliapietra's lower-priced diffusion line, C&T, which hit the store almost a month ago. Seeing how far the two designers have come together (in matching outfits for most of the way), we were a-hankering to know how it all started. So here's what kicked off 18 years of partnership, one marriage, and both the Costello Tagliapietra brand and its C&T diffusion line, as told by Robert Tagliapietra:
Well it was 1994. We saw each other at the The Sound Factory [a club in New York] one night and were both too shy to talk to each other. And it went on like that for three weeks. And finally one of our friends—he's around here somewhere, actually—said 'You're not leaving until you introduced yourselves.' So we did and we've been together ever since."
