In case you haven't noticed, nail polish is more popular now than it has ever been before. And while that has been known to go wrong every now and then, the upside is that even people who might have stuck with nude nails a few years ago are experimenting more with color, design, and, lately, texture.
But even the most outrageous nail art lover has their favorite brands to fall back on. What does your brand of choice say about your approach to beauty? Based on the top-sellers at OPI, Essie, Chanel, Sephora, and Deborah Lippman, we break it down for you.
If you're an OPI girl: Girls just want to have fun, as long as the girl is you. You are just as likely to try neon yellow lipstick as you are to try neon yellow nails. The brand's bestseller is their crackle polish, which, along with OPI's clever names and adventurous colors, appeal to the adventurous and experimental ladies out there.
Yogaga, from Essie's latest zen-inspired collection
If you're an Essie girl: You can't go wrong with the basics. Although Essie has taken some forays into cool colors and topcoats, they like to stick with what works for them, and so do you. There's a reason that year in and year out their most popular color is the pale pink Ballet Slippers—it works. If you're an Essie girl, you're the kind of chick who reads lots of books but always goes back to Wuthering Heights.
Lippman shades Let's Go Crazy and Across the Universe
If you're a Deborah Lippmann girl: Sparkle much? Lippmann is the queen of glitter, and her polish is for the chick who has to have glamour in every single thing she does. Even when it comes to the smallest details, you don't forget about a little bit of shine.
If you're a Chanel girl: Ever since the introduction of Metallic Vamp, Chanel has been setting trends in nail polish, just as they do in everything else. If this is your go-to brand, you're the kind of person who likes to be ahead of the pack, even if you have to spend a little more cash on a product. You may not splurge on a Chanel suit, but you understand the power of luxury and want to have it in your hands. And on your hands, too, obvi.
If you're a Sephora girl: Recently, Sephora released a box set of their 10 most popular polishes. While there were some fun colors represented, most were sheer or opaque. This means if you're a Sephora girl, you're buying polish as part of a larger bag of products and see nails as part of a look, instead of the whole look. You like to try fun colors and textures, but you also don't want your nails to be the first thing everybody sees when they look at you.
