The JCPenney revival saga has carried on for the better part of 2012 as the struggling department store introduced a so-far unsuccessful "no-sale" policy, welcomed shop-in-shops from Joe Fresh to Levi's onto its now better lit sales floor, and added iPads for streamlined checkout. Now, add to that list $10 coupons via personal email from the company's chief executive officer Ron Johnson. He wrote, "I'd like to invite you in to your favorite jcpenney store to see the changes firsthand. As an incentive, I'm enclosing a $10 gift. Think of it as a thank-you from jcp for your loyalty through the years."
A spokeswoman for the company told WWD that they're not sure whether this is a one-off thing. They are, however, "looking to expand our loyalty program with additional incentives." So still no sales, but maybe coupons will make come back. (Whether the "incentives" will come out of Ron Johnson's paycheck is yet-to-be determined.)
