Anyone who didn't blow her spring shopping budget on Prabal Gurung's cheery floral dresses for Target last week still has a lot to look forward to in the collaboration arena this season. From Duro Olowu's print spectaular for JCPenney to Oscar de la Renta's high-end, reissued dresses for The Outnet, here are seven other collaborations to get excited about this season.
Available Now: Karen Walker for Anthropologie
Karen Walker's third capsule for Antropologie delivers more of the quirky cute looks we know and love from this designer, but with a distinctly nautical feel this time around. There are lots of blues, whites, stripes, and polka dots, and at least one octopus thrown in for good measure (check out the lookbook here). Prices range from $98 for a tee to $298 for a dress.
Available Now: J.W. Anderson for Topshop
J.W. Anderson's second collection for Topshop launched yesterday and is already selling like hotcakes, so hurry if you want to get in on this one. The pieces run the gamut from extremely wearable (intarsia knit sweaters with birds and hearts) to less so (an argyle skirt with what looks like curtain fringe along the hemline comes to mind). But all channel Anderson's cheeky sense of humor and are priced in the relatively affordable $50 to $200 range.
February 26: Oscar de la Renta for The Outnet
Though Oscar de la Renta's collection for The Outnet far outstrips the typical high-low price range—we're talking $325 for a pair of shorts to $1,295 for a gown here—the collection is notable for two reasons. First, these aren't watered-down versions of the designer's originals. They're made of the past-season fabrics and patterns in de la Renta's regular factory, so, in theory at least, they should be the same quality as the designer's full-price line. And second, we have high expectations for The Outnet's first venture into the collab world, in terms of the online shopping experience. If you've got a grand burning a hole in your pocket, consider spending it here.
March 1: Duro Olowu for JC Penney
Nigerian-born, London-based designer Duro Olowu is known for his wild prints, and this collection brings all the bright plaids, checks, geometric patterns, animal and tribal prints, florals, and paisleys for your print-mixing needs. Bonus: some of the accessories and bags were commissioned from Olowu's old friend Iris Apfel. The pieces will retail for $10 to $100.
March 12: MADE for Macy's
In the past, Macy's has partnered with designers like Alberta Ferretti and Nicole Richie on capsules for their Impulse line, but this season they're shaking things up a bit. They've tapped Jenné Lombardo, one of the founders of Made Fashion Week, to design a series of collections based on runway trends. The first one is inspired by "modern school boy and feminine grunge," and will include 20 to 30 styles at a Macy's-friendly price point: $39 for tops, $139 jackets, and so on.
April 5: Derek Lam for Kohl's
The second capsule in Kohl's DesigNation series, where a designer travels to a city of his choice for inspiration, Derek Lam's Rio-themed collection is bringing a line of dresses, skirts, pants, capris, shorts, tank tops, and outerwear, and nothing is over $88. It'll also be Lam's first time designing swimwear: look out for a whopping 15 swimwear styles in addition to everything else.
April 14: Kate Young for Target
We saw these dresses in person during a press preview several weeks ago and can tell you that they look cute and fun, if a little on the young side—more prom than spring wedding. However, they're the perfect mix of dressy and sassy for the holiday season, if you're into planning ahead that far, and we're also curious to see if Target's first collab with a stylist can stand up to the collections they've produced with designers. Prices will range from $29.99 to $89.99 for apparel and $14.99 to $49.99 for jewelry, handbags and shoes.
