Apple Inc. has asked its suppliers to increase production of the gold-color iPhone 5S by an additional one-third, according to The Wall Street Journal. The main demand is coming from Hong Kong, apparently, where most pre-orders were for the shade as opposed to silver and "space gray," but it was the first to sell out in all countries receiving initial shipments. Those include Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore, the UK and US. But Apple Insider reports that the shade was "rumored to be severely constrained prior to launch day."
Gold and the rest are totally sold out until new shipments arrive in October, but do note that on eBay gold is going for upwards of $1500 (grey and silver are also pulling premium prices, but not at the frequency of gold). For the record we thought all the demand for the shiny, shiny shade was coming from Miami, but maybe that's because we saw the parody video on Conan first. Check it after the jump.
