Politely-mannered star stylist Brad Goreski is a force to be reckoned with. In addition to helming his own reality TV show It's a Brad, Brad World, Goreski travels the world styling celebs like Rashida Jones and Minka Kelly, works as Kate Spade's exclusive brand stylist and now, has inked a deal with Glasses.com to be their guest celebrity stylist.
"Glasses have become such an identifiable part of who I am and my style," said Goreski of the partnership. "They reached out to me to see if I wanted to collaborate in some way. I'm curating a set of six glasses for women and six glasses for guys that will be available through October 31st on their website in conjunction with the launch of their glasses.com app."
Racked spoke with Goreski yesterday morning about the new deal, his style evolution, the power of a man's beard and what he thought of Jon Hamm at the Emmys.
What styles were you looking for when curating the Glasses.com selection?
"I tried to pick glasses that reflected different types of style and people. We have everything from a signature thick-black-framed glass to a more matte frame to a 1950s shape. For girls, it's the same sort of thing. I wear different glasses for different outfits and looks, or for daytime versus nighttime. I wanted to make sure that I was speaking to all types of people who would be on the site."
How many pairs of glasses do you own?
"I have between 35 and 40."
When did you first need them?
"Probably about 12 years ago. I never wore glasses as a kid and then all of a sudden, my eyesight went a little wonkado."
We noticed that over the summer, you changed your look—grew a beard, stopped wearing bow ties, and generally went a little less preppy. What was the reason for the change?
"Good question. It's important for me as somebody who works with other people, reinventing them and giving them a new look, to make sure that I'm also telling a different story to people. As much as I am still in love with the bow tie, glasses, sky-high pompadour look, I just wanted to do something for myself since it's been five years of that one look. I wanted to see myself in a different way. I can't tell people to be changing up their style and to try on different style personalities if I'm not doing that. I thought that I would go back to my Canadian roots and try on the lumberjack look."
Speaking of beards, we're sure you watched the Emmys...
"I know what you're going to say. I'm literally going to freak out..."
Jon Hamm's beard was pretty epic.
"Yes. So good. I liked it a lot. I was walking around the afterparty secretly looking for him but I couldn't find him. His voice was a little scratchy and he sounded under the weather. I make really good chicken soup so if he reads this, I'm more than happy to go over."
It was surprisingly thick.
"It's very thick. I have to say that the response to my beard: women really like facial hair. I feel like if I was straight, I would have a lot of different girlfriends."
What else do you have on your plate?
"I'm continuing to style and am really busy with that. I have a lot of traveling coming up with Kate Spade New York. And I'm working on a couple of projects right now that I'm sure I'll announce in the new year that are super exciting and I've been working on for quite some time. I can't talk about them just now, but I will soon."
