Writing for Business of Fashion, Lauren Sherman devotes an article today to Rebekka Bay, the former Cos designer, and her new project, revamping Gap. Gap's profits, Sherman notes, have not grown since 2004. The retailer has been plagued in recent years by design inconstancy and a series of oustered creative heads. But Bay, who showed her first collection recently for the retailer, may have the magic touch.
That's according to editors at the NYC presentation, who liked what they saw. Said Eva Chen of Lucky. "She's exactly what Gap needs. Every single run-through now, it's Gap, Gap, Gap. And that's a good sign." Will it be enough to take on the H&Ms and Zaras of the world? That's another question entirely.
