The answer to who does the dishes in the Jonathan Adler-Simon Doonan household has finally been revealed, and on NPR, no less. Last week, potter, designer and color enthusiast Jonathan Adler appeared as a guest on Brooklyn-based trivia show Ask Me Another. During the interview portion, Adler admitted that he is obsessed with getting the dishes clean, he believes wholeheartedly in wearing white after labor day, and at one point in his career, he didn't know what an invoice was. As for the quiz section, Ask Me Another host Ophira Eisenberg asked Adler tough questions about how colors like mauve and camel got their names. Spoiler alert: he wins.
And in honor of Adler's appearance on the show, NPR just released a special podcast with Adler's husband and Barneys Ambassador-at-Large Simon Doonan's unedited 15-minute interview from the first season of Ask Me Another that was too salacious to air on the radio in its entirety. Apparently, quoting Freud's theory comparing handbags to part of the female anatomy isn't appropriate for all audiences. Listen to learn about Doonan's fluency in a secret language known as Polari, and his fashion advice both good—dress with confidence, conviction, and commitment—and questionable—plunge your breasts into ice cold water. That could've been part of the interview that ended up on the cutting room floor.
