Kate Middleton is on orders from the Queen to upgrade her wardrobe from High Street to high end according to the Daily Mail's ever-anonymous palace source. The Queen's personal dresser Angela Kelly is allegedly on loan to the Duchess for her upcoming Australian tour with Prince William. Kelly has been tasked with planning at least three couture outfits per day; choosing a handful of jewels in the form of brooches, necklaces, tiaras and more; and commissioning day and night pieces from the likes of Alexander McQueen and Alice Temperley for the Duchess.
So as longer hemlines and more precious stones enter the royal style equation, "girlish frocks," like those worn on her North American tour, are out. Apparently they contradict her Queenly new image and Team Middleton wants to avoid more Marilyn Monroe moments a la the Calgary airport in Canada in 2011 for obvious reasons. If the Daily Mail's source is accurate regarding the previously thrifty royal, it's about to get slightly more difficult to navigate all the choices at Zara and French Connection.
