People are still freaking out over Alexander Wang's bombshell fall 2014 collection, presented at his much-buzzed-about Brooklyn venue The Duggal Greenhouse. But some show-goers were not so much excited by the outer-borough journey as annoyed by it. At least, that was the case for British Vogue, whose reviewers passed up a ferry ride for a towncar which got lost en route to the Navy Yards. For all this bellyaching, you'd think they were going to Staten Island instead of just over the bridge to Brooklyn. Here it comes:
MEMO to Wang: traveling into the deepest depths of Brooklyn on an icy Saturday night doesn't put show-goers in the best of moods. It transpires that his show venue is so remote that it doesn't even show up on Sat Nav.
"And so, in a not-so-fun game of the blind leading the blind, a convoy of town cars circle streets in search of Wang autumn/winter 2014," they continue. "As the cars pulled up to the elusive Ship Way Avenue, passed 9pm, more than half an hour later than scheduled, a collective this-had-better-be-worth-it rippled through Wang's particular warehouse of choice."
Half of the review is devoted to traffic issues, the other half to the actual clothing presented. As they grudgingly admit, "the finale of heat-activated looks that changed color before fashion spectators' eyes, while whirling around on a conveyor belt were pretty impressive" but! "by then thoughts had already turned to the snaking gridlocked queue out of here and the pilgrimage back to Manhattan." Guess the F train was completely out of consideration?
