The official swag bag of this year's Oscars has been revealed, and as usual, it's a mishmash of the grand (a $15k walking tour of Japan, a $4k trip to the Canadian Rockies) and the bizarre (a $250 bottle of organic maple syrup? weight-loss gummi bears?). In addition, the bag is somehow stuffed with six thousand dollars worth of organic pet food. Bizarre.
Our sister site in LA spoke with the organizer of the swag bag, who works for LA marketing firm Distinctive Assets, to determine the thought process behind each item. "The selection process is a two-way street," he said. "Hundreds of brands certainly submit themselves for consideration, and my team actively solicits hundreds of brands as well. We are always seeking a balance of useful and unique, expensive and affordable, expected and newsworthy." He and his team also consider, "whether or not we think it would be used by celebs." Organic pet food, in that case, seems like a total win.
