Designer Isabel Marant's easy, chic clothing has been popular for a long time, but a recent foray into sneakers eclipsed everything else in Marant's line, selling out in stores and inspiring legions of knock-offs. Recently, she chatted with Footwear Rews (sub req) about the success of that shoe and if she still wears her sneaker wedges.
"They still have something special, even though there are a lot of copies, and the bad copies are super-ugly," she said. "People want [the original]. I'm still selling a lot. I don't wear them as often as I [used to] because I see too [many bad copies] in the street. I'm not saying mine are the most beautiful shoes, but they have a certain [style]. And on the weekends, I'm so happy to have them because I feel so good in them. I don't want to throw them out."
In regards to inspiration for her new line (above, a sneaker from pre-fall 2014), Marant stresses that comfort comes before all else. "The most comfortable things are the things you will always wear and that you are never fed up with," she said.
