Late last night, former GQ editor Lauren Bans revealed that she was behind the beloved, anonymous, now-shuttered Twitter account @CondeElevator—a collection of ridiculous overheard snippets of conversation from the bowels of 4 Times Square. Now, GQ has the first interview with Bans post-outing. The idea of the account came to her, she says, when she was joking with co-workers over a woman saying, "That looks delicious!" to another woman carrying carrot sticks.
If you've ever wondered if the commentary could be more vapid than published, it definitely was. Bans, on one remark she never aired, "There was one trip on the elevator I remember, where everyone was kind of silently watching the elevator TV, which was airing news about school shootings. All of a sudden this guy groans, and I assumed it was because of the headlines—but then his friend asked what was wrong, and he turned to her and said "I'm totally going to miss Marc Jacobs stopping by today." Amazing.
