Modcloth CEO Susan Gregg Koger has a word of advice: Call your mom. Besides the fact that mom always loves to hear from you and it was just Mother's Day, one call could be crucial in the developing stages of your start-up: "I always tell entrepreneurs: 'Go talk to your mom. Can your mom pronounce your business name?' … If you want a business that's going to grow, your mom needs to be able to tell all her friends about it."
Koger explained that everything from the start-up concept to the name needs to be easily distilled for those who may not know the ins-and-outs of your business the way you do. Because even though mom always knows best, what she doesn't know can be as enlightening. Thanks mom! More insights from the Koger, who started Modcloth when she was just 17 out of her dorm room at Carnegie Mellon, are on Fast Company today.
