Jos A. Bank has long been ridiculed over its extremely discounted pricing structure and Dillard's and The Children's Place have long been—wait, just what, exactly, have they been up to recently? Apparently, it involves creating soul-crushing work environments. All three companies just made the list of the top 11 worst publicly-traded companies to work for in America. 24/7 Wall Street compiled the list using data sourced from Glassdoor.com and each company's security filings.
Dillard's took the #6 spot on the list with 2.3/5 overall rating, which is determined based on the Glassdoor reviews and the CEO approval rating. For Dillard's, the CEO approval rating stood at 24% and only 28% of employees would recommend the company to a friend. One area sales manager from Dallas, TX called it "a very emotional and unprofessional work environment," while a juniors sales associate from Buford, GA warned, "Don't do it unless you're desperate."
Jos A. Bank's suits are so famously bad that SNL couldn't resist a dig.
Jos A. Bank also received a 2.3/5 overall rating but was awarded the #4 spot on the list—maybe they got extra points because of the infamous SNL skit? Only 25% of employees would recommend Jos A. Bank to a friend. A department manager from Westlake, OH said that it was "useful for the introduction into menswear, but really an awful way to spend one's life," in case anyone was contemplating lifelong employment status with the company. Another former employee tried to deliver their opinion politely: "Great staff but board members need to take it easy with the sales."
Children's Place received a 2.4/5 overall rating (hey, doing better!) with a 27% CEO approval rating. 28% of employees would recommend the company to a friend. A former sales lead ominously wrote "believe the reviews and run for the hills," while another former employee described the experience as "very political, bad management, there are powerful people in that company that are slithering snakes." This is The Children's Place, guys. A children's clothing shop.
