Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Hukkster, an app that allows shoppers to save items from any shopping site and be alerted when they go on sale, is no more. Yesterday, Racked received a note from an anonymous tipster saying that Hukkster co-founder Katie Finnegan had laid off most of the staff pictured here. Hukkster agreed to, and then abruptly cancelled, a call concerning the tip, saying they were "not at liberty to comment at this time" but that they would have more to share next week.
Today, Hukkster has shuttered.
UPDATE: Hukkster founders Erica Bell and Katie Finnegan have issued this statement to Racked. "We really appreciate your support during this difficult time. We are disappointed as well but so proud of our team and what we've built over the last two years. We are so thankful to our loyal Hukksters for allowing us to make our vision into a reality."
Now the site reads:
27 MonthsThe two-year-old app boasted investments from the Winklevoss twins, who lead a $750,000 initial round of funding; last year it pulled in $2 million in funding from Winklevoss Capital and a group of new investors. We've reached out to Hukkster for additional comment.
