Starting this week, Tumblr is partnering with Ditto Labs to mine uploaded photos for brand information. Mashable reports that 130 million photos are posted daily to the site, and now Tumblr will use the information analyzed by Ditto Labs to help advertisers understand how people are talking about and portraying their brand online.
According to Mashable, Tumblr is the first online platform to begin translating visual content into brand data. But others are close behind. Pinterest bought a firm called VisualGraph in January, with the hopes of scanning images and suggesting relevant advertising based on what people are pinning.
