Target is the fourth largest retailer in America behind Walmart, Kroger, and Costco, and it's been struggling to stay on top of its game. But Amazon has also been throwing Target for a loop lately—reportedly Target's e-commerce sales account for less than 3% of the company's overall sales. To counteract those numbers, Target has introduced a web team dedicated to improving customers' online and mobile shopping experience.
In an interview with CBS news, Target's newly instated CEO Brian Cornell openly admits that the company has to work towards getting its cool factor back. "I'll go back to the core brand positioning: Expect more, pay less," Cornell told CBS. "It's making sure that there's always that balance. And we might have tipped the balance towards pay less."
