The "Oscar de la Renta: His Legendary World of Style" retrospective curated by André Leon Talley is currently on view from now until May 3 at SCAD Museum of Art in Savannah. The Cut visited the museum during its glitzy private opening (as did Anna Wintour and Bryan Boy), and shares details about all the gowns showcased in the exhibits. And it is basically all gowns. There's only one pair of pants in the entire show.
Celebrities like Beyoncé, Oprah, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Taylor Swift donated their Oscar de La Renta dresses for the show, as did First Ladies Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush. Talley arranged De La Renta's pieces into vignettes, with props like a divan to recreate Hillary Clinton's 1998 Vogue cover, or bales of hay and a wheelbarrow for Miranda Brooks's rustic wedding gown. "The vignettes and the careful curation helped the exhibit feel dynamic and personal," The Cut's Véronique Hyland writes.
