Archie Andrews has gotten one heck of a makeover. The goofy redhead of Riverdale High has been transformed from dork to guitar-bearing dreambarge with chiseled cheeks and a jocky haircut. He looks like he actually plays the sport that warrants that letterman jacket or like he'd strum out "Wonderwall" whether Betty even asked him to or not.
Obviously nostalgia isn't what Archie 2.0 is going for. CEO Jon Goldwater told Macleans, "Archie was a dormant property when I arrived. It was frozen. It was basically a nostalgia brand. And while I think everyone knows about Archie—in the same way people know about Superman, Spider-Man or Batman—that only gets you so far." Hence the relaunch ushers in Mark Waid, an acclaimed superheroes writer, and artist Fiona Staples of edgy series Saga. End goal? A movie (probably in which Archie is some redheaded babe. Like Prince William.)
