For the Guys: Hussein Chalayan at YOOX

Now that Rogan for Target has wound down, let's take a look at a similarly exciting collaboration, but for men: Hussein Chalayan Spring/Summer 08 at YOOX.com. The collection focuses on "simple, wearable and modern basics with attention to effortless design and precise cut," centering around classic colors for easy layering. Granted it's not Target pricing, but the eternal wearability of Hussein's well-constructed pieces is worth paying out between $200-$600 for Hamptons-ready jackets and khakis that don't make your butt look fat.

Thank YOOX's Wild Bunch initiative for more than just that; the Hussein Chalayan Collection is only the newest of their partnerships with emerging designers. Past years have introduced the international e-commerce consumer to other limited-edition offerings from Alexandre Herchcovitch, Jeremy Scott, Hamish Morrow and Bernhard Willhelm. Although there is no official end date for the Chalayan line at YOOX, very soon the weather will be perfect for rocking these effortlessly classy looks.

Perez Hilton: Queen of All Fashion?

In the world of capsule collections, designers tend to fare better than celebrities, but all bets are off for Perez Hilton's Hot Topic collection, due out June 6 nationwide. Manhattan is safe for now, as the nearest Hot Topics are out on Staten Island or in the Queens Centre Mall, but the collection will be online. The goods on offer are predictably girly, and "range in price from $1.75 to $46, and will include products like Gossip Gangster Flip Flops, Perezcious Pink and Purple Lip Gloss and P-Nasty Shades–just to name a few." Too bad Perez didn't approach Kira Plastinina; he could have moved right in next to Dylan's Candy Bar. We say if the world can survive the onslaught of Crocs High Heels, then we're sure New York (at least) can survive this.

Shopping Target Collabs: A Complete Guide

You can shop Target.com all you want, but nothing beats actually ogling and touching their private collection and various collaborations in person. This weekend Racked headed to the land of milk of honey (meaning department stores and 3% sales tax): Jersey City. Still within sight of the Empire State Building sits not just any Target, but the microcosm that is a Target Greatland. With only one week until the Rogan for Target debut at Barney's, and two weeks until it hits actual Target stores, we were flabbergasted to find so much detritus from past collaborations. Small pockets of everything from Loeffler Randall to DwellStudio popped up around the store, with even some Jovovich-Hawk jammed into the clearance racks.

Our frighteningly detailed review of the state of Target's Collections:

Natalie Portman Saving the Earth One Vegan Shoe at a Time

2008_2_portmanshoes.jpg

Actress Natalie Portman appeared at Soho shoe boutique Té Casan last night for the launch of her vegan footwear line. One fashion blogger reports:

As anyone with functioning eyeballs can tell, she was stunning. She was also quite petite but definitely not el grosso-looking. Anyway, she had on a pair of her own (duh) "Pippa" Mary Jane heels in red (each style starts with "P"). As much as I liked the faux patent leather Poppy heels, they're pretty freaking basic for $225. That extra scratch has got to fund the celebrity machine. Now, don't get me wrong, I can barely draw a cartoon shoe let alone create actual designer shoes (though I'm not sure how deeply she was involved in the technical areas of shoe making), but most of the shoes were a bit of a snooze. Nice and elegant (ostensibly like Natalie herself), but nothing to write home about...or pay two Benjamins for.
All quite true, but, from the store's website: "All of Portman’s proceeds will be donated to the Nature Conservancy, a non profit that works tirelessly to protect ecologically fragile lands and bodies of water." Um, yeah. We'll take two pairs?

Tara Subkoff for Bebe Fails To Make Us Like Bebe

At left, the cotton/spandex ruffled wrap dress ($119); at right, the cotton/spandex halter dress (also $119)

Designer Tara Subkoff's new line for Bebe is up on the web. After seeing it in full, we have to say that this will not get us into a Bebe. No way, no how.

RackedWire: Jovovich-Hawk For Target, Revealed!

NATIONAL—Target's pressroom has finally released images of the much-anticipated Jovovich-Hawk Go International collection. The retroish designs don't disappoint—they're light, adorable without being twee, and perfect for summer. The line isn't supposed to hit stores 'til March 2nd, but there's a good chance that a few pieces will leak to Target.com before that date. Here's to hoping those dresses look as good on real people as they do on the models. [Target]

A Peek At Eugenia Kim's Hats for Coach

2008_1_ekforcoach.jpg
The Maude

Of all the designer collaborations that have been popping up lately, we've been quite intrigued by one in particular: the partnering of decidedly preppy accessory brand Coach and artsy headwear designer Eugenia Kim. The resulting 20-piece collection, which features feathers, exotic fabrics and trims, and Coach's Signature Legacy stripes, is slated to hit stores in April, but we've got preview photos for you now.

More styles, this way. >>
