Relocations: Shop Heading South, Adding Men's

2008_7_shop.jpg

The whispers about Stanton Street boutique Shop's relocation are true: Staff of the LES mainstay are packing up the merch from a storefront at 105 Stanton Street they've called home for ten odd years and hauling it down to a new location at 94 Orchard Street (formerly a shoe store that specialized in alligator loafers). It's a risky move, since the streets south Delancey don't have nearly the foot traffic of those north of it. But according to the email just sent out by the Shop girls, the new space is much larger than the old one, allowing them to stock menswear along with their excellent offerings for ladies. Remember to look both ways, and bring your credit card, when crossing the street.

This Store Blows: Steve Madden on Ludlow

Come summer, you see retailers around the city engaging in the rather despicable practice of leaving the doors of their stores propped wide open in the hopes of enticing shoppers in with blasts of frigid air conditioning. In protest of this wasteful, decidedly carbon-non-neutral trend we bring you, This Store Blows, highlighting the city's worst offenders. Want to join forces with us? Contributions, accompanied by a photo, are always accepted.

Store: Steve Madden, 132 Ludlow Street. Date: 6/24/08. Time: 2:18 PM. Why This Store Blows: Look at that poor little air conditioner. Even full blast, she can barely keep the store chilled, let alone bait shoppers on the street. Blatant waste.
