Cintra Wilson is steering the ship this week as Critical Shopper, and she decides to drop anchor at the uber-hip Oak boutique on Bond Street. The basic takeaway is that the place is somewhat ridiculous, and shopping there makes Wilson feel old. There are so many great lines in the (lengthy) review; here's our favorite: "A garment by Bless was an oatmeal-colored sheet-cape attached to a pair of pleated linen shorts by exactly one-half (the back half) of a gray cotton tank top ($568). If Heather Locklear had a parasitic twin emerging from her sternum who happened to be a nun, this would be something they would agree they could wear to Starbucks." Right on. [NYT]

Despite an early rush when the doors opened this morning at 11am, the Oak Warehouse Sale underway on Bond and Lafayette Streets isn't a complete crowd scene. Though it should be—there are some serious bargains to be found. During our quick perusal of the merch, we saw a good amount of clothing for both men and women and some insane deals on footwear. Jeffery Campbell and F-Troupe pairs were $20, Charlotte Ronson sandals were $50, gorgeous Melanie Dizon heels ran $40 to $100, clunky-looking Palladium sneakers were $50 and Dr. Scholl's were incredibly affordable at $10.
On to the clothing: many really nice dresses were still a bit out of reach at $200 apiece (including some beautiful ones from United Bamboo), but Oak jeans for men and women were affordable at $50 per pair. There were a lot of Harmon pieces on the racks, and an extraordinary amount of men's button-down shirts. But right now shoppers are devouring the selection, so get over there soon if any of this sounded appealing to you.
