Now (Almost) Open: Target Hits the Bullseye

Today, Target let members of the press have a peek at one of their four Bullseye Bodega pop-up shops. The stores, open to the public from Friday the 12th through Monday the 15th, are filled with goods from twenty-two of the retailer's designer collaborations. The space is set up like a colorful Costco, with little handwritten signs that say things like "Wowsa. Pretty plates, only $2.99 for a set of 8" and "It's a steal at $14.99! Get 2!" Obviously, they're playing up the bargains, but the boutiquification of what is usually such a daunting store is what really works here. All the limited-edition goods you have to comb through regular Targets to find are carefully displayed: decor items from John Derian and Rachel Ashwell, makeup from Sonia Kashuk and Jemma Kidd, Dean Harris jewelry. There's also a wall of Anya Hindmarch's understated handbags, racks of Jonathan Saunders colorblocked womenswear and shelves of Sigerson Morrison's glam footwear (made of real suede, we should note), all unveiled before they hit stores in the rest of the nation. It's cheeky, fun and easy-to-shop—just what most mega-sized Targets are not.

Target Releases More Info on its "Bullseye Bodegas"

No matter how many companies jump aboard the pop-up shop bandwagon, that combo of a now-you-see-it-now-you-don't timeframe and offers of special, limited-edition merchandise gets us every time. So of course we were excited to hear that Target would be opening four pop-ups in the city next month to showcase some of their many designer collaborations. Thankfully, the retailer's just revealed a bit more about the endeavor on their website. The locations—57th Street at Sixth Avenue in Midtown, Broadway near 12th Street in Union Square, Broome Street between Wooster Street and West Broadway in Soho and Bowery at 2nd Street in the East Village—will offer up goods from twenty-two of Target's collabs, encompassing clothing, accessories, housewares, makeup and more. The list of designers includes Anya Hindmarch, John Derian, Dean Harris, Jonathan Saunders and Sigerson Morrison; the stores, open September 11th 'til the 14th, will all be shoppable from 10AM to 10PM.
