Is Red Hook Ikea's Gain, Fairway's Loss?

We've known all along that the new Ikea in Red Hook was going to be getting Water Taxi service from Manhattan, but what we didn't know, until we got an email from someone that had been at meeting about the dock behind the store this week, is that the Ikea Water Taxi stop is going to be replacing the Fairway Water Taxi stop after Ikea opens on June 18. Water Taxi has a one-year contract to run from Pier 11 in Manhattan to Ikea and the free service will operate every 40 minutes on weekends. The ferry dock itself is described as "innovative" and designed so it won't create too much shade, which fish don't like. One can imagine that there are no cries of joy at Fairway at losing their Water Taxi service (even if it was only a little bit of Water Taxi service, as it was shut off for the winter in December), though it is just moving down the road.

Shopping The Personals: We Were On Line at the Deli Counter...
It's time again for Shopping The Personals, a Racked feature wherein we comb through the retail-based Missed Connections listings on Craigslist.
Last week, we posited that if you're going to try to pick someone up in a supermarket, Whole Foods may just be your best bet. Perhaps we were wrong, and any old food shop will work. Here, an assortment of tantalizing yet brief encounters at other grocery stores around town:
1) Upper West Side: "We were just on line at the deli counter at Fairway..u were #73 and i was #79...discussed ham...wasn't sure if ur friend was just a roommate or more. Would love to discuss ham some more with u...." [Listing]
2) Upper West Side: "You were shopping in Food Emporium at 68th and B'way around 8 PM. We commented on the ice cream after cruising each other on several aisles. I really wanted to comment about your beautiful blue eyes." [Listing]
3) Park Slope: "Just saw you at the checkout in C-Town on 9th Ave between 5th and 6th...you had a hat on but I really liked your beautiful blue eyes. You looked (and looked again through the window) but I wasn't sure if I should stop and I was in kind of a hurry..." [Listing]
4) Williamsburg: "It was late afternoon at a crowded Tops. I was wearing black tights, yellow skirt, gray hoodie and black coat. I am tall and have long dark hair. I was checking you out multiple times but was there with my roommate and we were both hungry and on a mission to get some food. I liked everything in your basket, so if you remember me, maybe we can go shopping some time." [Listing]
Live from Red Hook: Talking Turkey at Fairway

It's all about Murray's pre-brined turkeys this year
What is a trip down to Red Hook without a visit to the neighborhood's fantastic Fairway, quite possibly the best grocery store in the borough of Brooklyn? Apropos of nothing, we walked through the bustling supermarket today to suss out their holiday offerings. Though we could wax on about the place's cheese counter and olive bar, it's almost Thanksgiving time, and that means turkey. If bird's not your thing, they've got other options for your holiday spread, obvs.
