Preppy all-American company Gant recently asked Sartorialist Scott Schuman to photograph ten New Yorkers in outfits put together from their new fall/winter collection. The results are currently on display at the Gant flagship at 645 Fifth Avenue at 51st Street, and last night we stopped by the opening party to check them out. Our observations:
1.) We spotted several men wearing the Sartorialist's trademark outfit: A navy blazer, rolled jeans, and loafers. Our favorite had longish wavy hair and stood over six feet tall—physically, he couldn't have been more different from Schuman, but that didn't stop him from borrowing the look.
Satorialist photoblogger/Gap model Scott Schuman just shot a campaign for Gant. The concept: ten fashionable New Yorkers styled themselves in a mix of Gant items from the Fall/ Winter 2008 collection and pieces pulled from their own wardrobes, and were shot in "a selected downtown location that reflected each person's individual vibe" such as a "Lower East Side sidewalk, a Chinatown market, the steps of a West Village brownstone, the Meatpacking District [and] Tompkins Square Park." SOHO—British fast-fashion chain Topshop has begun recruiting for its first US store at 478 Broadway in Soho. They are "looking for the best retail talent to open and run this exciting new venture." You must love skinny jeans, Kate Moss. [RackedWire]
SOHO—A well-informed Racked tipster checks in with some much-appreciated info on Uniqlo's upcoming designer collections: "BTW, the launch date for Tim Hamilton for Uniqlo is March 28th and Loden Dager+Alexander Wang are May 30th. I got the inside info from the company." Expect serious lines, especially for the latter. [RackedWire Inbox]
MIDTOWN EAST—The strangerumblings surrounding Brioni's midtown shops continue. A Racked source reports that it's the women's store that the company is trying to offload, and that the men's is staying put. "Right now they have three shops, one on 52nd Street and two on 57th Street. From what I hear, they are looking to get out of the lease for the women's store at 67 E 57th. Maybe women's isn't selling as well?" This could also have something to do with the mysterious departure of designer Cristina Ortiz, who quietly left the company for a position as chief designer at Ferragamo. [RackedWire Inbox]

1) Gant: Sportswear brand Gant has reopened its Fifth Avenue flagship after a massive renovation, part of an overall facelift for the brand. It's clear from the looks of the place that they poured a lot of money into the revamp. From the press materials: "The centerpiece of the store is an open, four story curved staircase, crafted and resurfaced in pure white Corian, with the exterior volume finished in Venetian plaster. This volume of empty space, which has been nicknamed ‘the egg’, is immediately visible upon entry, and serves as the passageway to each floor experience." 645 Fifth Ave between 51st and 52nd Sts; (212) 813-9170 [Racked Inbox]
2) Olivino: Bed-Stuy continues to pull in retailers—the neighborhood's newest wine shop, Olivino, is an offshoot of a Clinton Hill store of the same name. Expect a well-edited selection of vinos, including many organic and sustainable wines. 426D Marcus Garvey Blvd at Macon St, Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn; (718) 857-7952 [Bed-Stuy Blog; Brownstoner]
3) Zaba: Another precious children's boutique has opened in family-friendly Tribeca. Zaba sells clothing from brands like Fig Organic and Bluebird as well as toys. The merchandise looks really nice, but pricey. (85 Franklin St between Church St and Franklin Pl; (212) 226-6355 [NY Mag]
