NATIONAL—The remnants of Gap's Design Editions have gone on sale. A tipster writes, "I don't think I've seen this on Racked but those fancy white shirts that the Gap was selling (the Philip Lim, etc. ones) are now marked down, from $54.99-$69.99." [RackedWire Inbox]
MIDTOWN WEST—More reports are trickling in about the Alain Mikli eyewear sale. Per a commenter: "The selection for this sale has been pretty slim. Most of the stock were brought in from many many previous sales that were never sold. It's disappointing that they never replenish stock. Basically, whatever they have now is all that they will have till the end of the sale. Sigh." [Racked Comments]
1) Financial District: We heard a rumor that Apple was interested in opening a FiDi outpost. And then, that news was confirmed. Brace, downtowners, brace.
2) Gramercy:Gaprolled out their second group of Gap Design Editions. The white shirts didn't exactly fly off shelves, but sales were brisk enough.
3) Red Hook:Ikea finally set a date for it's Red Hook outpost. June 18th's the magic day.
Gap Design Editions are flying off the shelves in LA just as in New York. But somehow, LA got all the Philip Crangi jewelry that the East Coast's still waiting on. What's up with that, Gap? The weigh-in: "the cuffs would work for a slightly bigger wrist and the other necklaces and bracelets weren't particularly exciting." [Racked LA]
Happy with the success of last year's Design Editions launch, Gap has once again turned to a small group of designers for a limited-edition mini-collection of white shirts. The second iteration of Gap Design Editions launched this morning, and while the word frenzy doesn't exactly describe the scene at the store we visited on Fifth Avenue between 17th and 18th Streets (it was pretty tranquil), the shirts were selling briskly. Sales associates told a Racked operative that more than 200 pieces had sold within the store's first 1/2 hour of business, and more are going as we speak. As is the norm with these things, the xs and s sizes are going first. The hottest items seem to be the threeASFOUR tank and dress, and Michael Bastian's western shirt for both men and women. One crucial note: Philip Crangi's jewelry has not made it into stores, and probably won't appear for a few more days (the reason for the delay is unknown).

Bright and early tomorrow morning, Gap stores across the country will unveil the company's new Design Editions collection. Tops and dresses inspired by the classic white button-down shirt have been whipped up by 3.1 Phillip Lim, Band of Outsiders, threeASFOUR and Michael Bastian; Philip Crangi has come up with a black-and-white jewelry collection to pair with the clothing. The folks over at Nylon, who seem as excited by the prospect of cheap Phillip Lim and threeASFOUR as we are, were able to procure some Design Editions samples to try on. The verdict: Thankfully, the pieces seem to be flattering on real bodies (those are Nylon staffers, above), and not just on the models in Gap's adverts. The clothing won't be available at every Gap store (call before you go), but it will be available on Gap.com.

It's hard to keep track of all the designer collaborations landing in chain stores these days, what with Target, H&M, Kohl's, Express, Payless and countless others getting in on the act. Here's another one to mark on your calender: The folks over at Gap are gearing up now for the roll out of their next Design Editions collection, to hit stores Tuesday, April 15th. It's the second year that the mass retailer has given the guest designer thing a whirl; the whole exercise is part of Gap’s partnership with the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. Last April, the white shirts, designed by Doo.Ri, Rodarte and Thakoon, debuted to a decent amount of buzz; this time around, interest should be high given the names involved—3.1 Phillip Lim, Band of Outsiders, threeASFOUR, Michael Bastian and Philip Crangi. The line will be focused on white shirts again, as you can see in the above photo, but Gap's also branched out a bit with menswear and jewelry. The pieces will be priced from $35 to $88.

Gap's coming out with a second batch of limited-edition, guest-designed white shirts. "Next month, Gap will be bringing back its Gap Design Editions limited edition program, having enlisted 3.1 Phillip Lim, Band of Outsiders, Michael Bastian, Philip Crangi and Threeasfour for the program's second round. This edition, Gap took more of a strategic approach. Where the 2007 initiative went to about 80 stores, there are elements this year that will go to all units in the U.S. For instance, Muto said the designs of Lim, who was a runner-up for the 2007 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award, will be more widely distributed. The shirts will be available at Gap Adult stores from April 15." [WWD, subscription req]
Today's the official launch day for designer Pierre Hardy's shoe collection for stateside Gap stores. Only a few styles from the line are stocked on Gap.com, but we had heard that more would be available at the retailer's flagship on 54th and Fifth Avenue (75 stores in the US are carrying the collection), so we headed there this morning. To our surprise, Gap has gone and opened a tiny pop-up for the occasion, right next door to their flagship. Strangely, Hardy's name is nowhere to be found. Inside the minimalistic temporary store, wedges in a variety of prints, flats (pointy-toed in tan, black and dove-gray leather) and gladiators (all priced at $78 to $98) were on display and overly-attentive salespeople milled about. "Do you want to try a pair on?" asked one staffer, who tried to appear friendly while discouraging us from taking any photos. If you're worried about the limited-edition styles selling out, don't. The place wasn't exactly buzzing this morning, and at the main store, the chain's Mulberry bags, unveiled last month, are still available to purchase.
