We're Back: Hickey Reopens

Soho: Though the triumphant flyer we just received from the folks over at menswear boutique hickey states that "a fresh coat of paint never hurt," we all know that the Grand Street shop wasn't closed down for five months so someone could slap some Sherwin-Williams on those walls. You may recall that the reason for the temporary shuttering was extensive water damage due to a pipe that burst in an apartment about the store, ruining the merchandise and destroying much of the place's interior. Whatever the cause, we're glad they're back open. There are few other stores in Soho where you can pick up a nice fitted suit and a pique polo embroidered with a little marijuana leaf.

Dealfeed Teaser: Hickey's First Sample Sale
Close readers will note this Dealfeed "Teaser" business is a break from the usual 24-hour notice on sample sales. Occasionally, when an event of exceptional merit comes along, we will avail you of the information far in advance. This is one of those instances. In other words: use a pen, not a pencil, to mark the calendar. Onward.
Truly great menswear sample sales are few and far between, so it's certainly newsworthy that Hickey, Hickey Freeman's younger, hipper spin-off, is holding its first-ever sample sale next Sunday. If their brand of preppy is your thing, this is an exciting development. The details:

RackedWire: Hickey's Flood, Last Chance for Barneys Warehouse Deals
SOHO—A Racked source checks in to explain why the Hickey store at 96 Grand Street is still closed, almost two months after some 'ceiling malfunctions' forced it to shutter temporarily. The sad story: "The contractors said that they will probably be closed another 3-4 weeks due to the extensive water damage from one of the apartments above the store. It seems a pipe burst on the top floor of the 120 year old building and no body could get it to shut off. He said nearly all of the merchandise in the store was destroyed in the 'flood'. That's it. Nothing too crazy. I just didn't think it was going to take so long to get the store open—but I guess the damage was severe. " Brutal. Just brutal. [RackedWire Inbox]
CHELSEA—The Barneys Warehouse Sale, our home away from home, is ending this weekend. Reports indicate that the discounts have risen to 75% off, which means this lady is not going to go quietly into the night. [RackedWire]
NATIONAL—This Sunday will see the debut of Milla "Resident Evil" Jovovich's and Carmen Hawk's Jovovich-Hawk collection for Target. As these things never really roll out perfectly, there's already been sightings of the clothing at a few stores, but a Target website search doesn't turn up any JH results yet. [RackedWire]

RackedWire: Hickey All Papered Up, Muji Sale

SOHO—This is strange: The Hickey boutique at 96 Grand Street is still shuttered due to the 'ceiling malfunctions' that closed the store more than a month ago. From the outfits of the workers hanging out in the doorway earlier today, the damage would seem extensive. [RackedWire]
SOHO—Muji sale! Muji sale! Writes a reader: "I don't think this was mentioned, but the Muji on SOHO is having a sale with selected items 50% off and 70% off. The clothing selection is pretty limited though. There are flats for both 50% and 70% off. The 70% off mainly goes to apparel, shoes, bags, and some cushion covers. Kitchenware is 50% off. I think it's worth a look, if anyone is a Muji fan." [RackedWire Inbox]

RackedWire: Full Frontal in the West Village, Temporary Closures in Dumbo and Soho
WEST VILLAGE—A Racked informant writes: "What is Briese? Any idea? On west side highway around Charles/Christopher sts. Oversized "arty" black and white full frontal photo of topless woman covers the door. Wouldn't fly as mag advertisement or billboard. And right at street level. Just curious if you guys had seen it. Sign next door says 401 projects. It's interesting because there's a very explicit picture used to sell something other than sex right nearby anyway all the west 10th sex shops and west side highway gentlemen's clubs which can't be as explicit." Um, does anyone have a photo they could send over? Some Racked Staffers are eager to, ah, examine this ad. [RackedWire Inbox]
DUMBO—A Brooklyn-based tipster sends a photo of the shuttered West Elm store at 75 Front Street, which is, let us reiterate, closed for renovations. January 13th can't come soon enough! [RackedWire]
SOHO—The newish hickey store at 96 Grand Street between Greene and Mercer Streets, crippled last week thanks to a ceiling collapse, is still closed. A tipster: "The sign on the door says something like 'Due to circumstances beyond our control, Hickey is closed.' Peering through the windows, the merchandise is pretty much cleared out." According to sources at the company, the store will be reopening in "a few weeks." [RackedWire Inbox]
