CARROLL GARDENS—South Brooklyn residents may have noticed that a swath of boutiques on Smith Street were recently shuttered when the building that housed them went up for sale. Now blogger A Brooklyn Life reports that one has found a home nearby. "Flirt is no more on Smith Street, which is sad because it was one of my favorite neighborhood boutiques. The location in Park Slope is still active, however, so now I'll just have to schlep myself over to 5th Avenue. In better news, Refinery (a long-time neighborhood stalwart for great purses) is looking quite spiffy in its new space just a few doors down." [A Brooklyn Life]
SOHO—Submitted by a reader, a choice quote worthy of Overheard in New York: "'This place makes Prada look like Toys R Us.'—a man trying on clothes at the new Jil Sander store, this past Saturday." Zing. Prada employees, get ready to hang those vertical blinds. [RackedWire Inbox]
The beautiful, if a bit austere, new Jil Sander store on Howard Street in southernmost Soho gets the Critical Shopper treatment this week. Cintra Wilson is decidedly in love with the place, writing: "The garments, arranged with great care at equal distances, are industrious, no-nonsense cuts on a strict solid-color diet of teal, navy, black, gray and magenta. These valuable wardrobe tools work productively because great thought, diligence and mathematical precision has gone into their styling. Because you are terrified to touch the clothing, the store is fortunate to have a handsome salesman, Paul Silva, who is exceedingly kind and supplied a variety of intelligent selections in Size 34." [NY Times]
A reader (and commenter) sends word of major markdowns at Barneys: "I was at Barneys yesterday (Friday), and on the men's designer floor (3rd floor) they had taken a third markdown (i.e. now 75% off). Loads of shirts from Paul Smith, Miu Miu, Martin Margiela, Marc Jacobs, Jil Sander, et al. now $130 or less. Many suits and blazers between $300 and $500. Obviously hit and miss regarding sizes, but still a lot of stuff around." [Racked Inbox]
Jil Sander is shy. The store's staff closed the blinds on us today when we tried to grab a photo of the interior of their new Howard Street store, located within a high-heel's throw of Opening Ceremony. No matter—the glassy front doors afforded a full-on glimpse of the minimalist interior stocked with bot-like mannequins dressed in the label's finest neutral-toned attire. The scene there this afternoon seemed calm but busy, as workers bustled around putting the finishing touches on the place in lieu of a planned full reveal at tonight's Raf Simons-hosted opening party. You can be sure that all ladders and construction equipment will be removed from the scene before that begins.

Dunderdon, Sweden's answer to Carhartt, has opened a new NYC flagship at 25 Howard Street in Soho. "Its unpretentious, wearable pieces in muted tones, made from twill, corduroy, and raw selvage denim, are hardy enough to earn its 'workwear' label but presentable enough that you won't look like your plumber. The shop is twice the size of the label's former home on Lafayette, and is down the street from Opening Ceremony and Ted Muehling. This spring, the trio will be joined by a very unworkmanlike neighbor: Jil Sander." [Material Interest]
