Reconnaissance at the Auto Yard Sale at 805 Washington Street in the MePa shows that the people have yielded to the call of SALE! Items are going fast, especially in the kids clothing and accessories section. The hefty discounts on Etro pillows, Skip Hop diaper bags, Paul Smith wallets and cufflinks, Missoni bedding, and Graphic Image journals and jewelry cases make it worth a gander, but don't expect any leftover Marimekko. Most interesting item: a huge vintage circus sign featuring the "5-legged sheep" on sale for $375.
Note: You can only enter the backyard sale through the Auto store at 805 Washington. Their annex next door at 803 Washington only has a few sale jewelry items.

1) Fort Green: Brownstoner's Brooklyn Fleakicked off with a bang. There was food, antiques and plenty of silk-screened tees, but sadly, no dogs.
2) West Village: The execs at Banana Republicunveiled their puzzling new concept store, Monogram.
3) Midtown West: With a massive press conference and a pop-up store, Starbucks debuted their new Pike Place Roast in Bryant Park. It tastes slightly less bitter than their regular coffee!
The colorful, patterned Marimekko tribute collection finally hit H&M today, a day later than promised. Not that we're unhappy about our fruitless trek over to the store yesterday or anything. The line is not for the faint of heart: as anyone who's familiar with the Finnish company knows, saturated colors and serious prints are the norm for a Marimekko piece. H&M's going full-force with this debut, giving shoppers plenty to choose from. For women, there's beach wear, bathing suits, jewelry, hats, bags, shorts, skirts, tops and a lot of long dresses; for men, bright shorts and long and short-sleeved shirts. The price point is relatively low—everything we picked up was under $100. Though salespeople cautioned that the line would fly off of shelves, the scene at two H&Ms on Broadway in Soho this morning was pretty darn quiet. Cavalli, it ain't.

Without much by way of explanation, H&M has decided to delay the unveiling of their summer Marimekko line. The debut is now scheduled for tomorrow. According to sales people, the merch will go on display later today, with the first opportunity to buy being Friday at 9 AM. [RackedWire]
Equal parts licensing deal and tribute, H&M's 2008 summer collection featuring Finnish designer Marimekko hits H&M locations today, bright and semi-early at 10 AM. At present the scene is rather quiet up on 5th Avenue and 51st Street (right), and the windows definitely don't have the line on display yet. But, this should be exciting: vivid, retro colors, a gentle price point, and the promise of a collection joyfully fresh like a vitamin injection really should do the trick, non? Get thee to an H&M, see what you think. More to come from the scene. [RackedWire]
"Here’s a very early look at what to expect in H&M tribute collection to Marimekko which hits stores April 10. A brief summary: Colors, colors, and more colors. Since it’s not a designer collaboration like Karl Lagerfeld or Roberto Cavalli, the price point is lower than you might expect. A one-piece swimsuit is $34.90, an apron dress is $49.90. The 50 piece collection also includes menswear: Bermuda shorts are $39.90, short-sleeved shirts are $29.90. On the whole, expect vivid colors and patterns sure enough to have you daydreaming of tropical vacations..." Click through for preview photos. [The Cut]
