Time for a fun new game, folks. We've picked the highest-ranked Street Scenes subjects of the past four days from Racked NY and Racked LA; you decide which coast has the best style this week.
On the left we have our NYC contender, Diana, (who scored 20.7% Perfection!/44.2% I feel strangely ambivalent about it./35% Who did this to you?) wearing a Daffy's dress, a vest from Beacon's Closet, an H&M bag and sandals from 6PM.com. On the right we have our LA contender, Sao, (who scored 35.5% Perfection!/21.5% So close./29% I feel strangely ambivalent about it./14% Who do this to you?) dressed in a T-Bags dress, Aldo heels, Prada sunglasses, bangles from Nordstom, Betsey Johnson earrings, and a Louis Vuitton bag.
New Racked feature Like/Likely is where we highlight attractive (and not so attractive) vacant storefronts, discussing what business would, in a perfect world, lease the space—and what, in reality, will probably end up there.

Soon will come the day when the massive, muddy pit marring the border of Williamsburg will be replaced with mega-development The Edge. The 7.5 acre site, which will contain three shiny towers with a head-spinning 1,085 luxury condos, will also boast 60,000 square feet of retail space. Since the rumor about Apple looking to move in was quickly squashed, we have to wonder: Who's going to be doing business at the Edge?
What we'd like to see open: Well, since being swallowed whole by the earth isn't an option for the Edge, wouldn't a W'burg Barneys Co-op be nice? How awesome does Topshop Brooklyn sound? And can you imagine how pissed Manhattanites would be if Nordstrom ditched its midtown dreams and went this far east?
What we're likely to see open: A supersized Duane Reade, anyone? A mega-Target store, perhaps? A Subway sandwich shop? Those all seem to be relatively safe guesses. And since Steve Jobs has said no way to the area, maybe Circuit City or Best Buy will swoop on in. Oh, and let's not forget the bank chains.
Have hopes, dreams and predictions for the Edge? Hit up the comments.
"After years of Brooklyn being snubbed, national names like Apple, JC Penney and Nordstrom are now taking notice, sources say. 'It seems like there's no recession in Brooklyn,' said Dave Cox, owner of the new IHOP, who plans to open in Bed-Stuy, East New York and Williamsburg. Borough President Marty Markowitz welcomes the new restaurants but is red-faced over Brooklyn—with all its tech-savvy dwellers—not already having an Apple store. He said he's negotiating with the computer chain for potential locations in the planned City Point building at Albee Square, the old Williamsburgh Savings Bank tower in Fort Greene, and the lower level of the Municipal Building on Joralemon Street." [NY Post]
Today's Street Scenes subject is Kathryn, shot in the tents in Bryant Park. Feel free to vote on whether you like or dislike her outfit—your choices are 'Perfection!,' I feel strangely ambivalent about it,' or 'Who Did This To You.'
Can you picture Nordstrom opening in downtown Brooklyn? We certainly can not. But the Daily News insists that "department stores are making a huge comeback in downtown Brooklyn, with Target, JCPenney, Kohl's and Nordstrom eying spots in the Fulton Mall..." Target, well, we broke the news of that store coming to Albee Square a month ago. And it's easy to imagine that Kohl's and JCPenney would be interested in the area. But Nordstrom? Just because Marty Markowitz flaps his lips does not make it so; the store will most definitely open its first NYC outpost in Manhattan. The paper does have more info on the Target, though, stating that it is slated to open sometime in 2011 after "construction is completed at the 132,000-square-foot City Point building" and that it will be less than a mile from the Target at Atlantic Center.

Bets are on as to which major retailer will snap up 675 Sixth Avenue in Chelsea. The 41,700-square-foot storefront, located in a beautiful pre-war building, is currently home to Barnes & Noble. Though the book store isn't slated to shutter till next spring, the space is already being advertised for rent. But who will bite? The Shophound would love to see a Nordstrom move in, while a Racked reader wrote that the location would "make a perfect Tar-zhay store." Target in Chelsea? Well, many of the other retailers in the area are discount, so it would seem to make sense, but we're with The Shophound on this one. Any other guesses/predictions as to who it will be? Feel free to mail 'em in, or leave them in the comments.
