Fascinating: DWR's Idea of a Sale

Everything must go at DWR. As you can see, they're slashing prices right and left! Right now, you can pick up a small Dordoni Worktop Table, was $2,200.00, for $2,200.00. And that Sussex Credenza? It's $3,600.00, marked down from...$3,600.00! Madness.

Launches & Releases: Bluefly Debuts b*fly

Discount web retailer Bluefly has unveiled a new virtual property this morning, b*fly. Described by the press release as a "contemporary on-line boutique that links haute couture with casual wear," the new section of the site allows online shoppers to browse by trend (mini dresses, graphic ts) in addition to sorting by pre-existing categories (designer, price, what's popular, what's new). So really, it doesn't seem that different than what Bluefly was already doing. But they did come up with a fun new logo...

Sample Sale Site Gilt Groupe Adds Menswear

Just because we're in a recession doesn't mean that all businesses are struggling. Gilt Groupe, an online sample sale website that launched in November, announced today that they were expanding into menswear. The site, which is invitation-only, holds 24-hour sales a few times per week and often sells out of merchandise within the first hour. Although they've managed to pull some impressive names—Diane von Furstenberg, Thakoon, Tibi, Sari Gueron—the sales have never particularly thrilled us because the discounted merchandise is still often priced in the hundreds. So you're not going to be finding the type of deals you'd encounter when rifling through boxes at some bargain-basement type sale.
Still, it's clear that for those with slightly deeper pockets—or people who can't skip out on work to wait in line to get into a sample sale—a site like Gilt is a godsend. And soon, men will be as ensnared by its powers as women apparently are.

Urban Peddling Keffiyehs, Rosaries for Spring

It's been almost a whole year since controversy spurred Urban Outfitters execs to pull Keffiyehs from their catalog and stores, citing the 'sensitive nature' of the scarves. Surprisingly, the chain has decided to re-introduce the political accessory for Spring 2008. Racked checked in on the selection at the Urban Outfitters at 526 Sixth Ave in Greenwich Village and saw it there in black and white: the "Houndstooth Desert Scarf", out in full force. Previously labeled with the more Anglo term “shemagh,” the Urban Outfitters’ keffiyehs ring in at $18, despite their availability for $5 at sundry shops on the same block.
An added bonus: choosing the keffiyeh on the UO website brings up a 2 for $20 "Renassaince Rosary" (sp) with the tip to “get all Father Guido Sarducci.” That’s our Urban Outfitters, always folding obscure pop culture in with dubious moral responsibility.

Hardy's Shoes for Gap Surface on the Web

Though there hasn't been word of Pierre Hardy's shoes for Gap showing up in stores yet (the launch date is Thursday, March 6th), the footwear appears to be available online now. Three styles of the eleven promised have surfaced on Gap.com—Mary Jane flats ($98), sandal flats ($78) and three-strap platforms ($98). Strangely enough, the site doesn't mention Hardy, instead branding the shoes as part of their Design Editions initiative.
