This weekend, $450 gets you into Super Saturday, a Hamptons mega-sale raising money for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. The list of participating designers is rather gigantic, including "Donna Karan, Theory, Carolina Herrera, Calvin Klein, Judith Leiber, Michael Kors, Catherine Malandrino, Diane von Furstenberg, Polo Ralph Lauren, Lacoste, Salvatore Ferragamo, Prada, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Emilio Pucci, Hogan, Tory Burch, Thomas Pink, Zac Posen, Scoop NYC, Saks Fifth Avenue, Henri Bendel, Intermix and FAO Schwarz." And everyone's favorite stylist Rachel Zoe will be there, selling off clothing that has been touched by the magic dust of celebrity, e.g. Jennifer Garner's shoes. [Portfolio, The Cut]
Time for a fun new game, folks. We've picked the highest-ranked Street Scenes subjects of the past four days from Racked NY and Racked LA; you decide which coast has the best style this week.
On the left we have our NYC contender, Diana, (who scored 20.7% Perfection!/44.2% I feel strangely ambivalent about it./35% Who did this to you?) wearing a Daffy's dress, a vest from Beacon's Closet, an H&M bag and sandals from 6PM.com. On the right we have our LA contender, Sao, (who scored 35.5% Perfection!/21.5% So close./29% I feel strangely ambivalent about it./14% Who do this to you?) dressed in a T-Bags dress, Aldo heels, Prada sunglasses, bangles from Nordstom, Betsey Johnson earrings, and a Louis Vuitton bag.
We thought dressing room technology was perfected when they invented doors, but clearly we weren't thinking big enough. Forbes takes a long, detailed look at the "dressing rooms of the future," all designed to take the drudgery out of trying on multiple pairs of pants.
Prada has announced a new bespoke service for the creation of one-of-a-kind bags. With a waiting list pushing two months and only available from Prada stores in Milan, Tuscany, Paris and London, it seems the hottest new "it" bag will be the one you create yourself (price upon request, of course). "Customers will be able to choose from a wide variety of decadent materials (suede, leather, crocodile, python, alligator, snakeskin ), rich colors, hardware and detailing." We're betting this will be the next must-have birthday gift on My Super Sweet 16. [TFS]
CARROLL GARDENS—South Brooklyn residents may have noticed that a swath of boutiques on Smith Street were recently shuttered when the building that housed them went up for sale. Now blogger A Brooklyn Life reports that one has found a home nearby. "Flirt is no more on Smith Street, which is sad because it was one of my favorite neighborhood boutiques. The location in Park Slope is still active, however, so now I'll just have to schlep myself over to 5th Avenue. In better news, Refinery (a long-time neighborhood stalwart for great purses) is looking quite spiffy in its new space just a few doors down." [A Brooklyn Life]
SOHO—Submitted by a reader, a choice quote worthy of Overheard in New York: "'This place makes Prada look like Toys R Us.'—a man trying on clothes at the new Jil Sander store, this past Saturday." Zing. Prada employees, get ready to hang those vertical blinds. [RackedWire Inbox]

Feel free to vote on whether you like or dislike her outfit below—your choices are 'Perfection!,' I feel strangely ambivalent about it,' or 'Who Did This To You.'

Sauntering down Broadway late last night, we were attracted over to the Prada window by things other than the magical wood nymphs currently decorating the store. A small white piece of paper was taped to the far left column next to the store's entrance at 575 Broadway at Prince, warning that "Vendors are not permitted in front of this building. Summonses will be issued." Does Prada really believe that one 8'x11" photocopy and 4 pieces of scotch tape will deter the briefcase watch men? While there is some photographic evidence of there having been at least one (food) vendor in front of Prada, we're wondering how long has this been going on. If the vendors are pushed off any more prime corners on Broadway, then where will the tourists buy their purses?

CHELSEA—The planned cleansing of the mom n' pops from Ninth Avenue between 18th and 19th Streets roused about 200 members of the community to a protest this past Saturday, reports Vanishing NY. Continuing today's theme, one participant opined, "A neighborhood is not a neighborhood if it's overrun by high-end boutiques, banks, and chain stores." Click through for more pix and reax. UPPER EAST SIDE—While putting your finishing touches on your outfit for tonight's Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala, this bit of intel just across the wire from the Prada public relations team might come in handy: "This is to inform you that Tilda Swinton and Elizabeth Banks will be wearing Prada tonight to the 2008 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit. Tilda will wear a gold Guipure lace dress with hand-sewn floral applique from the Fall/Winter 2008 Collection. Cintra Wilson's Critical Shopper column on the Soho Prada store might just get some poor sales associate canned. The Times writer described how she basically bolted from the store after being walked in on in the dressing room multiple times by an overeager staffer: "Knock, knock. 'How’s it going?' The door slid open. I loathe being barged in on while half dressed. 'We can alter that. Try this!' Zelda handed me a shirt I had rejected with her earlier. She left the door open. Male sales assistants stomped by. I dug to find the items I wanted. Knock, knock. 'Yes?' (Translation: 'Come in! Bring a guest!') I stood in my camisole as Zelda exposed me to the seamstress: a small woman with a pin-filled tomato on her wrist. 'She’s leaving,' Zelda cried. 'Can you come back tomorrow?' 'Yes. Could I get some clothes on, please?' 'Oh!' Zelda left the door wide open. A construction engineer in work boots walked by. I tried the lock again." [NY Times]
