Stipe Sculpts on the Bowery

2008_6_remrogan.jpg

A tipster has just sent in the first photo we've seen of singer (and artist) Michael Stipe's installation at the Rogan boutique on the Bowery. Pretty freaking cool, right? There are more pieces inside the store, including these bronze cameras. The whole shebang will have its public debut tomorrow; a fancy press-and-VIP unveiling is being held tonight. If anyone reading is attending that event, photos please?

Above The Fray: Rogan Rocks in Tribeca

If last week's overstuffed DVF sale put you off purchasing, this week's Rogan markdownfest in Tribeca will make you want to jump right back on that horse. A Racked operative stopped by the sale an hour ago - this is his report:

As of 1pm this afternoon, there was still a decent selection of menswear to be found at the Rogan sale, and a good portion of it would suit the more petite among the gentlemen shoppers (s and m in jackets and shirts, 30-33 waist in denim and shorts). Discounts were generous—jackets sliced to $80, pants and denim to $40. There were slim pickings in the men’s shorts selection, however—but at $40 apiece it’s impossible to turn down if they do have your size.

A note on the t-shirt situation, this way. >>

RackedWire: Rogan Readies on Bowery, Aloha Rag Celebrates

2008_5_roganstore.jpgBOWERY—The Rogan store going in to the old Bouwerie Lane Theater at 330 Bowery is thisclose to opening. Reports a reader: "Rogan sign up at new store. Very subtle, it is the original Bowery Lane Theater sign, but the 'R's on the sign are now the signature Rogan shape 'R'." [RackedWire Inbox]

Shopping Target Collabs: A Complete Guide

You can shop Target.com all you want, but nothing beats actually ogling and touching their private collection and various collaborations in person. This weekend Racked headed to the land of milk of honey (meaning department stores and 3% sales tax): Jersey City. Still within sight of the Empire State Building sits not just any Target, but the microcosm that is a Target Greatland. With only one week until the Rogan for Target debut at Barney's, and two weeks until it hits actual Target stores, we were flabbergasted to find so much detritus from past collaborations. Small pockets of everything from Loeffler Randall to DwellStudio popped up around the store, with even some Jovovich-Hawk jammed into the clearance racks.

Our frighteningly detailed review of the state of Target's Collections:

Finally, we come to understand why Times Square is wallpapered with Target Ads. >>

Storecasting: Rogan on Bowery Looking Creepy

2008_4_roganpreview.jpg

Rogan has been breaking some hot news lately, and our checkup on the progress of his second New York store at 330 Bowery at Bond shows that a May opening is imminent. Originally rumored to be opening this month, the store has only one thing in place so far: its jet-black, coffin-esque interior. The space was formerly the Bouwerie Lane Theater/Jean Cocteau Repertory, which up until early 2007 cranked out Off Off Broadway productions twice a year. However, a gander at the building's Wikipedia entry shows that the property is returning to its original purpose: "the storage of fabrics."

RackedWire: Robert Geller Taking Up Residence in Den, Deets on Rogan's Bowery Shop

2008_4_robertgelleratden.jpgEAST VILLAGE—The staff at Den has cleared out the store's inventory of Karen Walker to make room for their next guest: Robert Geller. According to Material Interest, "pieces from the Hamburg native's spring collection, as well as eyewear and neon-yellow denim" will be available there beginning tomorrow. [Material Interest]

BOWERY—Designer Rogan Gregory talks to Style File about his soon-to-open Bowery boutique, which we broke news of a month ago: "Well, the space is automatically spectacular——the building itself is kind of a landmark. It's got character, and inside, there's 20-foot ceilings. I'm doing the whole thing in black, reflective surfaces, very clean and cool. I like that mix of the old and the new—soulful modernism, I guess I'd call it. I think I love designing spaces more than I love designing clothes, to be honest." [Style File; Racked]

BREAKING: Rogan Bowery-Bound

2008_3_roganstore.jpg

It's really all about the Bowery these days. Another designer has grabbed space on the formerly-gritty avenue, and we're pleased to tell you it's none other than Rogan Gregory of avant-garde label Rogan. According to rock-solid Racked sources, the eco-conscious CFDA/ Vogue Fashion Fund award winner will be setting up shop on the northwest corner of Bowery and Bond. It'll be his second NYC store; the first is located at 91 Franklin Street in Tribeca. We're told that the Bond Street boutique is slated to open sometime in April. He'll be in good company: the storefront is just a stone's throw from the new Oak outpost and a block from the much-ballyhooed John Varvatos shop that should be opening sometime within the next year or so.

Storecasting: Aloha Rag To Storm Hudson Square

Hawaiian boutique Aloha Rag is trading the sunny, breezy, palm-tree-strewn beaches of the islands for the smoggy Holland Tunnel nightmaresville of Hudson Square. According to Material Interest, the retailer, "a pioneer of the artful mix of European and indie designer brands," is landing on the corner of Greenwich and Spring Streets in late March (renderings of the soon-to-open shop are above). The store will be stocked with trendy pieces from labels like Ksubi, Rogan and Tim Hamilton. We wish them good luck.
