It's not just Naomi Campbell who doesn't do stairs—in Tim Gunn's new book, he reminisces about a time when he witnessed Anna Wintour being carried down the stairs at Peter Som's 2006 fashion show at the Metropolitan Pavilion.
While a Vogue rep denies the veracity of this story—"Tim Gunn has a very vivid imagination. There is no truth to any of this," a spokesperson told the NY Post—this is not the first time we've heard this story. But, while Gunn says it happened at the Met Pavilion, we heard it happened at Milk Studios—back when it only had one elevator that took ages to shuttle everyone up and downstairs. Maybe it was a recurring event? Let us know if you've witnessed this firsthand, too.
"I was with a colleague from Parsons, and we had been discussing the will-she-or-won't-she-take-the-elevator question, so we ran over to the elevator bay to see if Anna would deign to get on. She wasn't there. Then we looked over the stairway railing. And what did we see but Anna being carried down the stairs. The bodyguards had made a fireman's lock and were racing her from landing to landing. She was sitting on their crossed arms."· Tim Gunn describes Anna Wintour's special ride [NYP]Adds Gunn: "I ran to the window to see if they would put her down on the sidewalk or carry her to the car like that. They carried her to the car. And I thought: I will never for get this."
